CHURCHVILLE—Norwich eighth grader Brevin Bennett competed in the 2026 NYSPHSAA golf championship over the weekend, where he finished 14th overall.

Bennett tied for ninth after the first round, where he shot a even 71.

"Brevin played very well and fought hard for the even score," Coach Dave Branham said. "Brevin's greatest assets is his chipping and putting undoubtedly.

"He also keeps the ball and play very well. We often talk about keeping the golf ball between the green and yourself, which means pretty much down the middle. Brevin rarely vists the ruff or the sides of the golf course."

“Brevin had a great experience at the New York State boys golf championship. He definitely fits in very well and will possibly be an eventual champion I believe,” Branham said. “His strengths are keeping the ball and play and minimizing his mistakes. Also a very big one is his stamina. It was a very hot long two days. Total golf time for two days was 11 1/2 hours. I would say a lot of standing and walking. When many players were beginning to wilt and make mistakes because they were retired Brevin seem to get stronger. I truly believe that’s attributed to his massive amount of golf. He plays at the country club and other tournaments. Brevin and I made a lot of new friends which will be with us for the rest of our lives and we really look forward to doing this again next year because I’m positive we will be back.”

Congratulations, Brevin!
