Norwich PONY falls to Walton 15-8

NORWICH— The Norwich Purple Tornado PONY league team hosted Walton on Thursday night, where they fell 15-8 in their second game of the summer season.

Walton took an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning while Norwich cut the deficit in half with two runs in the bottom of the second. An error and a wild pitch brought in the runs.

Walton added nine runs in the top of the third and Norwich answered back with five of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

Lucas Pope singled to lead-off the inning and stole second and advanced to third on an error. He came into score on a groundout RBI by Sam Boland.

With two outs, the inning continued as Channing Foulds walked and Mason Skundrich was hit by the pitch.

Both would score on Koltyn Collins’ two-run single. Joey Portelli got into the action with an RBI single to drive in Skundrich. Rocky Burke drove in Collins to make it a 13-7 game.

Norwich added another run in the bottom of the sixth as Cooper Vischi scored on a wild pitch.

Walton scored once more with two runs in their final at-bats.

Norwich outhit Walton 7-6 but could not hold their opponent.

Jadiel Jorge and Koltyn Collins led Norwich with two hits as Portelli, Burke, and Pope each had one hit.

Foulds and Boland reached on walks and Mason Skundrich was hit by the pitch twice in the loss.

Mason Skundrich got the start, going two and two-thirds, allowing 12 runs (five earned) on five hits, six walks, and struck out four batters.

Koltyn Collins pitched four and a third innings in relief, allowing three runs (one earned) on one hit, five walks, and struck out five batters.

Norwich (0-2) hosts Schenevus on Monday at 6 p.m.
