Norwich Post 189 sweeps doubleheader vs George F. Riordan Post 974

NORWICH— The Norwich Post 189 American Legion baseball team hosted Whitney Point’s George F. Riordan Post 974 for a doubleheader at the Norwich turf field on a hot Sunday afternoon. Norwich swept the doubleheader with two victories. Norwich hosts the Oneonta Green Wave on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Game 1:

Zack Parker pitched a gem on the mound in the game following his graduation as he threw a no hitter with four walks and 10 strikeouts. A run scored on a wild pitch. Norwich got on the board with a run in the first off Collin Reid’s triple before George F. Riordan tied the game in the top of the second. Norwich lit up with a seven-run second inning, added a run in the third, and finished with two in the fifth. Zack Parker also tripled and had two hits and two RBIs to led the team. Carmine Pastore also tripled in the game, driving in two runs as well. Kassen Stubb also had two hits in the win.

Game 2:

Zack Parker collected three hits in four at-bats to help Norwich sweep the doubleheader while Kassen Stubb had five straight strikeouts on the mound in the first two innings, including getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the first. Both teams added a run in the first inning before Norwich added three in the third, one in the fourth, four in the fifth, and three in the seventh. Parker and Collin Reid both drove in two runs as Stubb had two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run. Joey Parker also had two hits and drove in a run and Carmine Pastore drove in a run as well in the win. Stubb allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits, four walks, and struck out seven batters through four and a third. Kolbey Redenback pitched an inning and two thirds, striking out three batters.
