Norwich YMCA Dolphins dive into summer training camps
NORWICH— The Norwich YMCA Dolphins swim team will be hosting two competitive swim camps for summer training. Camp one is a three-week session designed for any new swimmer, age 6-17, looking to get into the sport of competitive swimming, that has never been on a swim team before and especially for those that may have phased out of swim lessons.
Training will focus on stroke technique, body balance, starts, and turns. Camp one is also for eight & under seasoned swim team members of the Norwich Dolphins, along with the Mini-Dolphins program. Ample time will be given at the end for team bonding and free time. New swimmers should be able to swim at least one lap of the pool (25 yards) unassisted in any stroke and be comfortable swimming in the deep end.
Camp one will run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 6-7pm, June 30-July 16, 2026.
Camp two is a seven-week training session designed for all seasoned competitive swimmers, nine and older, that have experience on a swim team. Training sessions will be a mix of drills and conditioning to help swimmers stay in shape during the off season and provide ample opportunity to explore development in the various strokes. This camp is open to all swimmers that have swim team experience including those on surrounding middle & high school teams.
Camp two will run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. July 14-August 27, 2026.
Camps and team are coached by YMCA Dolphins Coach Eric, a former YMCA national level Dolphins team member and High School State level team member with over 20 years of coaching experience on a variety of teams including city youth bureau, modified and varsity teams, and guest coaching.
Coach Jess, former Hartwick College Men’s/Women’s Swimming and Diving Assistant coach with nine years of experience having coached collegiate national level swimmers, and Coach Shannon another former Dolphins team member, former freestyle record holder, and Dolphins coach with six years of experience. Each coach brings a different skills set and the drive to help young athletes learn skills that will benefit them in their swimming careers.
Whether learning the fundamentals of competitive swimming or preparing for another season of racing, the YMCA Dolphins' summer camps aim to help swimmers of all experience levels continue developing in and out of the pool.
