OXFORD — Recently, various Oxford organizations came together to plan ceremonies and activities to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.

The three day event will begin at 5 p.m., Friday, July 24 and run through Sunday, in Oxford.

“The weekend recognizes our great country and history surrounding the Oxford area while also honoring the amazing people that graduated from Oxford Academy and Central School,” said Promote Oxford Now (PON) Vice-President Jessica Henninge.

“We will also pay homage to our Alumni Weekend, and Ice Breaker thrown by the Oxford American Legion, held on the last Saturday in July,” Henninge said.

Additional celebrations over the three days will include a kid's carnival, festivities in the park, garden club activities, an ice cream social, burger and dogs from Third Day TreesThird Day Tees Print Shop, a car show, music, a corn hole tournament, fireworks, a historical walk, veteran dedications, and more.

“There will also be a duck hunt scavenger hunt with participants searching out duck signs with various facts about the organization printed on the signs,” she said.

Henninge noted scavenger hunters will be entered into a drawing for prizes donated by generous local businesses.

She said the beauty of this event, is that various community members came together and immediately chose an important weekend for Oxford to enhance the celebration.

“From businesses big and small, service organizations, churches and more,” she explained, “Everyone has come together as a community, to support one another in the celebration of our country’s 250th anniversary.”

“It’s been a collaboration, involving so many,” said Henninge. “It’s been so heartwarming, and we can’t wait to celebrate with our neighbors.”

“We hope everyone can take a little piece of Oxford with them this weekend,” she added.

PON is also very excited to present a 250 Banner Collection, printed by In Motion, that Henninge said is “Absolutely special.”

She said they are still accepting donations for the firework display and are at about 40% to their goal, of which the vendor generously discounted the fireworks for the celebration.

Firework donations can be given to the Town of Oxford Clerk or in the donation buckets at The American Legion Fort Hill Post 376, after 2:30 p.m.

Banners were graciously sponsored by the Town and Village of Oxford, Oxford Rotary, Oxford Masons, Promote Oxford Now, Oxford Lions Club, and a local foundation.

Friday, July 24

5 p.m.- The opening ceremony will be held at the Fort Hill Post 376, in Oxford, with an Alumni weekend ice breaker and Oxford Academy Hall of Distinction social at the Oxfords Academy High School Auditorium, located at 50 South Washington Avenue.

6 p.m. - The Oxford Academy Hall Of Distinction ceremony.

Saturday, July 25

9 a.m. to 12 p.m. - A Postal Service Historical display will be located at 2 South Washington Avenue

9 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Taste testing event at Ye Old Shanty, located at 44 S. Canal Street.

9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. - New York State Veterans Home of Oxford Vets Cruise in Auto Show, located at 4207 State Highway 220.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Historical celebrations to be held in the Oxford Historical Society Open House, located at 1 Depot Street.

11 a.m. - Third Day Tees community give back event, at 16 Main Street.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. - The United Church of Oxford Open House will hold a historical display and ice cream social, located at Fort Hill Park.

11 to 11:45 a.m. - Dedication ceremony for Patriot Burials” marker honoring CPL Job Wilcox, located at Wilcox Cemetery, located at 325 North Tyner Road.

11 a.m., to 5 p.m. - Gallery There-Two-One will present Fred Buhner’s Magical and Mythical Creatures showcase, at 41 State Street.

1 to 4 p.m. - The Oxford Garden Club will offer an opportunity for kids to Make and take seed bombs, located at Lafayette Park.

1 p.m. - Historian Vicky House will provide a walk around the village, starting at 6 On The Square, located at 6 Lafayette Park.

1 to 2 p.m. - Place Feeds will hold an open house at Merchant Street.

9:30 p.m. - American Fireworks 250th Celebration Show; launch site - the Sewer Plant.

Sunday, July 26

7:30 to 11 a.m. - Oxford American Legion Breakfast at Fort Hill Post 376, located at 17 South Washington Avenue.

11 a.m. - The Blue Stone Golf Course Parent-Child Golf Tournament, at the golf course, located at 44 Scott Street.

2 p.m. - Free summer concert provided by Reese Fuller and the Carriage House Band, located at 6 On The Square, at Lafayette Park.

During all three days of celebration, Wilcox Maple Products Farm Store will be open 24/7, located at 3597 County Road 32.

Hoppie’s Cafe invites all to enjoy their yummy dishes from 7 a.m., to 3 p.m., located at 2 Lafayette Park.

The Stadium will offer a variety of foods, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., located at 1 Main Street.

Throughout the village, receptacles for redeemable cans and bottles will be placed to collect for Teddy’s Trillions.

Teddy’s Trillions is a project started by a young boy to raise funds to help support other young children who have medical health conditions.

He is currently raising funds for Baby Cooper who has CCHD (Critical Congenital Heart Disease).
