NEWPORT— The Sherburne-Earlville Timberwolves football team bounced back with a 28-14 win on Thursday on the road to defeat West Canada Valley. It was the start of a three-game road trip for the Timberwolves.
After being down 6-0 in the first quarter, S-E scored three times before the break. Jordan Palmer ran the ball for a 12 yard score and handed the ball off to Trenton Anderson for a two-point conversion. Anderson also ran the ball for a 13 yard score while Palmer also passed the ball to Jason Daring 44 yards and ran it in for the conversion. Anderson had one more score in the third quarter on a three yard run.
Quarterback Jordan Palmer finished 7-for-11 in passing for 92 yards and a touchdown and also ran the ball 20 times for 157 yards and a touchdown.
Anderson finished with 20 carries for 132 yards and two touchdowns while Cooper Thorpe ran the ball twice for two yards and received the ball four times for 12 yards. Jason Daring had three catches for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Head coach Ethan Johnson was impressed with his team’s abilities to improve their game from just a week ago. This win against West Canada Valley was a fresh start for S-E to get motivated and clean up some things.
“We really drove home the basics this week to run hard and in between your blockers, to block until the whistle, to not force anything down the field and they all did that,” Johnson said. “It’s a great feeling to see the guys work hard and it pays off. I wouldn’t say it was a complete game, there were a lot of mistakes we made that we need to fix but it’s a step in the right direction.”
S-E (1-1) heads to Frankfort-Schuyler on Friday at 7 p.m.
