OXFORD — The Oxford Blackhawks girls’ soccer team had a strong outing against Walton/Downsville on Monday afternoon with a 6-0 shutout victory at home. The girls kept together and maintained good possession and will power to get the job done.

“I am incredibly proud of the grit the girls displayed on the field tonight,” Coach Rachel Seiler said. “They were more aggressive on the offensive end. This is exactly the kind of the offensive momentum we want to build, and we look forward to carrying this through the rest of the season.”

The Blackhawks took a 2-0 lead at halftime off the hot feet of Emily Williams with one assist by Paige Rickard. Emily stayed hot to start the second half with a hat trick scored within the first 30 seconds off a good touch on kickoff and a little breakaway.

Arielle Ross scored minutes later off a great pass by teammate Jordan Palmer. Palmer saw great movement and drive throughout the contest.

Oxford, who maintained strong field possession all game and held Walton/Downsville to just three shots on goal, found themselves strong twice more offensively on corner kicks. Jayne Fleury struck twice for the score minutes after each other.

The Blackhawks were still hungry for more with over 20 shots on goal. Aubrey Rickard tried hard to net one in but her shot went wide. Aubrey and Raine Rovente also played superb defense in the win.

Oxford (2-2) heads to Harpursville to take on Afton/Harpursville this afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
