Norwich girls soccer honors seniors against Oneonta

NORWICH — The Norwich Purple Tornado girls’ soccer team hosted rivals Oneonta for senior night on Wednesday. Congratulations to Luise Auer, Emma Colosi, Reagan Decker, Arabella Dwyer, and Josey Ryan.

Norwich stayed upbeat with the Yellowjackets, but fell short 2-1.

Oneonta controlled shots on goal and possession early on, but Norwich was able to find a good turning point late in the first half. On a foul in front of the net, Norwich earned a penalty kick, where Josey Ryan crashed the net and gave Norwich a 1-0 lead at the buzzer. Ryan had many shots on goal, where one of her shots nearly missed going in as it hit the bar.

In the second half, Norwich had early possession and good looks but Oneonta tied it up eight minutes into the half. Both teams looked pretty even throughout the second half with Norwich playing intense defense but Oneonta was able to put massive shots on goal, where Kerragan Reid played phenomenal in goal.

Quinn Terry had a chance to break the game open on a penalty kick, but the shot was saved.

Oneonta had a big breakaway with five minutes to go in regulation to score the game-winning goal.

After Oneonta’s goal, Josey Ryan had a good opportunity in front of the net, but her shot was deflected.

Norwich (2-8-1) heads back to the Delhi tournament this evening at 7 p.m. facing off against Delhi before finishing the regular season on the road next week.
