Chenango grand jury hands up indictments
NORWICH – The Chenango County Grand Jury met Wednesday and handed up several criminal indictments. At the proceedings, the District Attorney’s Office presents evidence against those they wish to prosecute and the jury decides if there is enough reasonable cause to charge a person.
Yesterday, the grand jury indicted four individuals for crimes against the people.
• Thomas A. Valyo, 39, County Rd. 24, Sherburne was indicted on second degree assault and third degree menacing for allegedly beating up a woman on Shawler Brook Road. The prosecution contends Valyo repeatedly punched and kicked the woman, fracturing her left cheek bone and causing severe facial and abdominal bruising. They also claim that during this attack, Valyo was threatening to kill the woman.
• Jason R. Doliver, 25, Northrup Road, Norwich, was indicted for driving while intoxicated.
• Richard R. Jenkins Jr., 23, West Store Road, South New Berlin, was indicted for attempted second and third degree burglary. Jenkins allegedly entered a home on Cortland Street and remained inside with the intent of stealing items there within.
• Michelle A. White, 43, Savior Lane, Oxford, was indicted on four counts of second degree forgery for signing checks in another person’s name, attempting to deceive the bank and the victim. Allegedly she falsified four different checks, totaling over $180. She also failed to appear for her recent court appearances and the County Court has issued a bench warrant for her arrest.
Another Grand Jury will convene next week to hear more cases. The jury usually only meets, on average, every three or four weeks but because of the recent increase in arrests, they will be meeting more frequently.
