NORWICH – The Chenango County Grand Jury met Wednesday and handed up several criminal indictments. At the proceedings, the District Attorney’s Office presents evidence against those they wish to prosecute and the jury decides if there is enough reasonable cause to charge a person.

Yesterday, the grand jury indicted four individuals for crimes against the people.

• Thomas A. Valyo, 39, County Rd. 24, Sherburne was indicted on second degree assault and third degree menacing for allegedly beating up a woman on Shawler Brook Road. The prosecution contends Valyo repeatedly punched and kicked the woman, fracturing her left cheek bone and causing severe facial and abdominal bruising. They also claim that during this attack, Valyo was threatening to kill the woman.
