Trojans eye repeat title
GREENE – A familiar foe awaits Greene tonight at 8 p.m. when the Trojans look to defend their Class A Section IV field hockey title at Dick Hoover Field in Vestal.
The Trojans (16-2), who haven’t lost in six weeks, face Whitney Point in a rematch of last year’s final (a 3-1 Greene victory). Whitney Point was the last team to defeat Greene this season, and tonight’s matchup is the rubber match of a three-game set this season. “I think we’re pretty confident going into the game, we just have to play our game and find ways to score,” said Trojans coach Sue Carlin.
If the Trojans exude a level of confidence, it may stem from a decisive 3-0 shutout of the Golden Eagles in the two clubs’ latter meeting this season. Greene went on to claim the Section IV, Division I title by a slim margin over the Golden Eagles. “The last time we played Whitney Point, that was pretty much as well as we can play,” Carlin said. “You have to against teams like that.”
