WEST WINFIELD – Coming off a career-best 19-strikeout game, S-E junior Lindsay Hodges upstaged herself coming two outs from pitching a no-hitter in Monday’s win over Mount Markham.
Hodges gave up a single with one out in the seventh and finished with 14 strikeouts and just one base on balls. “I don’t know about this year, but I think she’ll definitely get it (a no-hitter),” said S-E coach Scott Fitzpatrick. “She’s coming on strong at the end of the year when we need it.”
Hodges also had her best batting game of the season finishing 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, and three RBI. Morgan Reid added a 2-for-4 day for S-E (9-2), who play at Sauquoit Valley Wednesday.

Deposit 9, Oxford 7
OXFORD – Oxford’s late-inning offensive surge was not enough to overcome Deposit’s early advantage Monday.
Emily Cecere went 3-for-5 with three RBI for Deposit, who scored four runs in the fourth to lead 6-0. In that inning, Deposit had five hits and benefited from an Oxford outfield error, the Blackhawks’ lone miscue of the game. “We had people on base every inning, we just couldn’t get them in until the end,” said Oxford coach Margo Barrows. “We made some good plays in the infield and had some timely strikeouts to get out of jams.”
Oxford (4-9) scored all of its runs over the final three innings including four in the last of the seventh. Alyshia Crawford hit a two-run double in the fifith and Allie Nelson finished with two hits.

McGraw 4, Otselic Valley 3
MCGRAW – Otselic Valley’s defense fell apart in a three-run sixth for McGraw to give the host club a one-run come-from-behind victory Monday.
The Vikings committed just one miscue through the first five innings, before making six errors that led to their downfall.
Jenna Tobias had two hits for McGraw in the victory.
Melinda Schutt went 2-for-4 on the OV side, and hurler Amber Wood struck out 11 and allowed just four hits to take the hard-luck defeat.
Saturday, OV played a twinbill at Munnsville with just eight available players losing 8-4 to Edwards and 15-4 to Waterville.
The third inning in each contest was particularly woeful for the Vikes. Edwards surged in front with a five-run third, while Waterville packaged enough hits and baserunners to push across seven runs and take command. Wood was 2-for-2 in the loss to Waterville.
Last Friday, OV (4-9) won its fourth game of the season topping Brookfield, 11-7. Melinda Schutt hit a three-run homer, Rachel Evans went 3-for-4, and Wood finished 2-for-3.
The Vikings play at G-MU Thursday.
