Deputy Superintendent receives prestigious award

NORWICH – The Association of School Business Officials International has chosen to honor a local administrator for her commitment to her profession and her accomplishments as a school leader.
Margaret Boice, deputy superintendent of the Norwich City School District, has been selected to receive the Distinguished Professional Eagle Award at ASBO’s 2008 annual meeting in November. The award is given as “recognition of school business officials who are models in the school business management profession and demonstrate outstanding leadership.”
The Norwich administrator was notified that she was a finalist for the award in July. “I knew I’d been nominated, but I was very pleased, to say the least,” said Boice. An interview process determined that she would receive one of three distinguished professional awards to be given out this year.
Boice was nominated for the award by the executive director of the New York State Association of School Business Officials, Deedrick Bertholf.
“She really is a person who has demonstrated leadership,” said Bertholf, who has worked extensively with Boice both through the association and in his past role as the deputy superintendent of DCMO BOCES. “Margaret has done a wonderful job leading not only her district, but across the state.”
Boice has been involved with the association for 23 years. She has served on the board of directors and as president of NYSASBO during that time. She currently acts as the liaison between the state level organization and schools within the DCMO BOCES district.
Bertholf, a past recipient of the award himself, said he was pleased Boice was selected to receive the honor. “She deserves it,” said the executive director.
“Margaret Boice has done an excellent job for the Norwich City School District for many years and is recognized as a leader in her profession,” said Superintendent Gerard O’Sullivan. “The district is very fortunate to have such a fine professional helping us all in our work.”
As an Eagle Award recipient, Boice will not only receive recognition for contributions to her field, she will also have the chance to give recognition to a Norwich High School Student. Thanks to ASBO, Boice will have the honor of awarding a $2,500 scholarship to one of this year’s graduating seniors.
