S-E stages 'Our Town' this weekend
SHERBURNE – Don’t miss the Sherburne Earlville High School drama club production of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town.” This weekend, the group will be performing the classic three-act play set in the fictional town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire between the years of 1901 and 1913.
The story depicts the everyday lives of the people in Grover’s Corners, in the early 20th century. Act I is called Daily Life, Act II is Love and Marriage and Act II is called Death and Eternity. The style of the play focuses on the characters by stripping away normal conventions of theatre, such as sets and props. The actors, working with little or no props, pantomime most of the action allowing the characters to shine through.
Director Colleen Law-Tefft added a Sound FX crew of students who will be creating the ambiance of the play by use of sound effects. They will be in full view of the audience, in the orchestra pit, rather like an old time radio show.
Senior Stephanie Joyce, playing the Stage Manager, will narrate and guide the audience through the characters lives. Other seniors taking their final bows on the S-E stage include Kaitlyn Briggs (Mrs. Gibbs), Brittany Clark (Emily Webb), Brenda Hoefler (Mrs. Soames), Bronwen Mahardy (Asst. Stage Mgr.), Max Pacilio (Simon Stimson) Russell Pfohl (Doc Gibbs), Bekah Riley (Mrs. Webb), Eric Robertson (Mr. Webb), Tyler Rundell (George Gibbs) and Luke Taylor (Howie Newsome).
Law-Tefft said, “Most of these seniors have been involved since 6th or 7th grade and have become a stable force in the drama club. They will be missed.”
The large cast includes almost 40 students working in various aspects of the production. Ranging in age from 10 to 18 years old, the cast includes Kaitlyn Briggs, Brittany Clark, Joelle Clark, Jenn Clark, Tammie Crane, Margaret Dushko, Meghan Dushko, Zoe Enscoe, Elizabeth Farrow, Geana Giglio, Brent Guiles, Brenda Hoefler, Marni Horton, Stephanie Joyce, Claire Khoury, Brownwen Mahardy, Ceridwen Mahardy, Isaac Mettler, Taylor Morris, Skyla Murray, Eric Muth, Haley Muth, Craig Natoli, Molly Ogden, Kayla Osterndorff, Max Pacilio, Russell Pfohl, Bekah Riley, Lulu Riley, Eric Robertson, Tyler Rundell, Emilee Smith, Shannon Staley, Rebekah Taylor, Lucy Taylor, Luke Taylor, Jeff Taylor and Alex Tefft. Eliza Taylor is assistant directing.
Don’t miss the timeless life lessons that are still relevant in today’s faster paced culture examined in Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” on the S-E high school stage Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and available at the door.
