Greene 50, Sidney 29
GREENE – Greene continues to improve each time out, and a 21-point win over a talented Sidney club on Friday night was further evidence of that team growth.
“We had a bad quarter against Sidney the first time we played them, and they were able to get back in the game,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “This time, when we had a bad quarter, we still played great defense.”
The Trojans (4-2) began to shake the Warriors in the third quarter extending their lead to 10 before a dominant fourth stanza put the victory on ice.
Erin Smith bucketed 13 points, Liz Wentlent scored 12 points to go with eight rebounds, and Andrea Day added 12 points.
“This was our best game of the year – by far,” Gorton said. “We showed so much character in the Harpursville game, and that carried over.”

Sherburne-Earlville 55, Cooperstown 37
COOPERSTOWN – Sherburne-Earlville established itself as division title contender in the Center State Conference with an impressive 18-point road victory against Cooperstown Saturday.
“Cooperstown is always a tough place to play,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan. “We came out and had a great first half.”
The Redskins tried man-to-man defense in the first quarter, and Bridget Irwin scored nine points on the interior to squash that defensive approach.
Cooperstown switched to a zone defense in the second stanza, and that resulted in three straight S-E three balls in as many possessions to catapult the Marauders to a nine-point halftime lead.
Irwin had her fifth double-double in six games finishing with 17 points and 10 boards. Caitlynn Adams filled up the stat sheets as well scoring 17, grabbing 12 rebounds, and added seven assists, five blocked shots, and four steals.

Oxford 57, Afton 27
OXFORD – Oxford pieced together what may have been its best all-around performance of the season in a blowout divisional win over Afton on Friday.
Battling Afton closely early in the game, the Blackhawks ripped off a 24-0 run – including 20-0 in the second quarter – to establish a 32-6 halftime advantage. “Our defense led to some good offense and some easy buckets in the first half,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer.
Part of Oxford’s success was containing Afton’s leading scorer Jessie Winans, who finished with a season-low five points. Most of the man-to-man duties on Winans were handled by senior Kelli Whitehill, who added eight points to the Oxford ledger.
Alyshia Crawford (14) and Haley Witchella (12) paced the Blackhawks’ season-high scoring effort. Jackie Heggie pitched in with eight points, nine rebounds, and five steals.

Harpursville 49, Bainbridge-Guilford 40
BAINBRIDGE – Harpursville’s Hannah Kimmel was the difference – as she is in most games – in her team’s nine-point win at Bainbridge-Guilford Friday.
Kimmel scored 11 of her game-high 30 points in the pivotal third period as a tie game at the break turned into a 10-point H’ville lead. “Hannah is really tough to stop and very good getting to the basket,” said B-G coach Bob Conway. “In the third quarter (a 16-6 Harpursville advantage), we had opportunities and didn’t put the ball in the bucket.”
Chelsi Rosa finished with a season-high 21 points to lead B-G, who play Unatego on Dec. 28th at home.

Unatego 44, Walton 36
OTEGO – In winning its fourth straight game and first in league competition Friday night, Unatego did two things against Walton that no other team has done this season: Hold the Warriors’ collective without a three-pointer, while also keeping outside sharpshooter Holly Reynolds from scoring a single point.
“(Our two teams) are pretty familiar with each other, and Walton has some really good shooters from the perimeter,” said Unatego coach Greg Bonczkowski. “We wanted to limit their three-point opportunities and contest every shot on the perimeter. Our kids did an outstanding job defensively.”
Stephanie Havens provided the offensive punch for the Spartans scoring 20 points. Casey Manzanero had a team-high 13 rebounds, and Shelby Puffer finished with nine points and nine boards. “It was a well balanced game,” Bonczkowski said. “We rebounded well on both ends of the floor – it was a total team effort.”

Taylor Monroe had a season-high 15 points for the Vikings in the loss. “They were pretty good, and we just turned it over way too much,” said OV coach Danielle Graham. “We’d make one or two good passes, then throw it away.”

Schenevus 32, G-MU 16
SCHENEVUS – G-MU’s four-game winning streak was snapped by Schenevus Friday, who held the Raiders to a season-low point total.
“They played zone defense and we moved it around and just didn’t hit shots,” said Raiders coach Jim Johnson. “We weren’t able to the ball inside, and their height advantage hurt us.”
The Raiders (4-2) had just nine points after three quarters, and did not make a serious run over the final eight minutes.
Tanya Barnes scored 12 of G-MU’s points. “The loss is disappointing, but giving up 32 points to a quality team is not bad,” Johnson said.
