Local restaurant to feature live performances
NORWICH – The Bohemian Moon, known for its American and ethnic-styled lunches and dinners, will begin hosting live musical acts in 2010. Shows will take place on Thursday nights between 6 and 9, featuring a variety of local and regional talent.
This September, previous owner Brenda Gibbon finalized the sale of the Moon to local entrepreneur Miby Kim, who also owns and operates La Maison Blanche, located on state Route 12, south of Norwich.
“I’d always wanted to build a unique kind of restaurant for the people of Norwich,” said Gibbon, who added she had always intended to sell the restaurant eventually. “Miby was the perfect fit to take over.”
“In the entire spectrum of human experience I think Brenda and I are probably 95 percent alike in what we believe and how we do things,” stated Kim. “We are very similar in purpose, and the restaurant just seemed like a great match to the bakery. It just made sense.”
While the menu and staff have remained essentially the same, Kim said she plans to “introduce some new things from time to time,” including the addition of live music. “I couldn’t be luckier when it comes to the staff. They’re all pretty fabulous. I feel like Brenda handed me a present.”
“I’ve begun seeing more people stopping in just for coffee or dessert,” said Kim. “We hope people realize that this is a great place to stop after dinner for drinks and relaxation.”
First to appear live at the Bohemian Moon will be guitarist John Keller, who will be performing his unique style of original and classic acoustic rock Jan. 21 and Feb. 18. Future performances will include the Horseshoe Lounge Playboys and Celtic Dreams.
“Similar to the menu, we wanted people to be able to experience a wide variety of musical styles,” said Gibbon, who continues to consult with Kim at the restaurant. “With Keller you get more of a rock feel, while Celtic Dreams’ name speaks for itself and the Horseshoe Lounge Playboys incorporate stand-up bass, fiddle, guitar and drums, playing old-time bluegrass music.”
The Bohemian Moon, located at 103 East Main St., is open Monday through Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 5 to 9 p.m. For more information call 334-9480 or go to www.bohemianmoonnorwich.com to see updated lunch/dinner menus and event listings.
