Couple pleads guilty in burglary case; DA seeks third suspect

NORWICH – A married couple appeared in Chenango County Court Monday to plead guilty to charges related to a burglary they committed together.
Jeanna Sabine-Davis pleaded guilty to third degree burglary, a felony, and was placed on one year of interim probation. At the end of that time, she would be eligible to be sentenced on a misdemeanor charge as long as she cooperates with probation and avoids any violation of her terms, which include drug screening and random home searches.
Brandon M. Davis appeared after his wife’s guilty plea and entered one of his own. He pleaded guilty to attempted burglary, a felony, and was sentenced to one year at the Chenango County Correctional Facility.
Jeanna told the court she drove Brandon and another unnamed suspect who has not yet been charged in the case to an Otselic Valley residence Aug. 7 to break in the home.
“I drove them there and dropped them off,” she said in her admission.
“You understood that’s what they were there to do?” asked Public Defender Alan Gordon in satisfying the plea arrangement.
“Yes sir,” she responded.
Chenango County Court Judge W. Howard Sullivan warned Jeanna that the terms of her plea bargain strictly forbid drug use and if discovered could lead to the deal being dismissed and up to seven years in prison.
“There are some concerns she’s been using since she’s been out,” Sullivan told Gordon after a conference with drug treatment officials and prosecutors.
Brandon also unexpectedly admitted his role in the crime less than an hour later. “I went to the home to see if anyone was home. They weren’t,” he said. “So we popped open a window.”
District Attorney Joseph McBride said the third suspect had not yet been charged and hoped the pleas of these two co-defendants would help prosecutors build another case.
Gordon asked for permission for Jeanna to travel outside of New York, which was temporarily denied by the court.
“Until the other two cases are resolved, I’d ask that she remain in the area, judge,” said McBride.
The couple was accused of breaking into the home and stealing four hunting bows, four bottles of liquor, a flat screen TV and a glass jar of pennies.
