Norse pipeline permitted under state Route 23

NORWICH – A New York State Department Of Transportation permit that would enable contractors for Norse Energy to bore underneath state Route 23 in Plymouth has been approved.
The DOT last week issued a use and occupancy permit to the Norwegian energy company that clears the remaining regulatory hurdles and allows completion of another section of its 11-mile pipeline in Madison and Chenango counties. The work is expected to be finished by the end of this month.
The Route 23 bore would enable gas to flow from two wells in Preston, which have been awaiting pipeline since December.
“I am very pleased with the diligence and teamwork of our employees, exhibited over recent weeks, that pave the way for completion of another major pipeline connection that expands our gathering pipeline system further south and brings us another step closer to our longer term goal of connecting with the three major interstate pipeline that pass nearby our acreage position in central New York state,” said Øivind Risberg, Norse’s chief executive officer.
The segment of pipeline would connect the existing and future wells in Preston and Plymouth to the company’s compressor station at the Diehl well, located just south of the Smyrna town line, and carry production to market via either the Dominion pipeline or a New York State Electric and Gas line. Norse has plans to extend transmission south through Chenango County to connect with the Millennium pipeline in Broome County.
Sixteen and a half percent of one well’s production value would be shared by the owners, the town, Chenango County and applicable school and fire districts based on the distribution of property taxes.
