Funds still available in ADC Barn Restoration Project

CHENANGO COUNTY – A handful of Chenango County barns will get a facelift this spring as a result of a local group dedicated to stimulating economic development in the local agricultural industry.

In August, the Chenango County Agricultural Development Council unveiled the Barn Revitalization Program, a matching grant designed to help farmers pay to paint their existing barns.

According to ADC Chairperson Jennifer Tavares, the intent is to help instill pride in local agriculture.

A total of $2,000 was allocated for the program, only a portion of which was distributed in the first round of funding.

“We have assisted two farms thus far, who expect to paint their barns in the spring,” she reported. That leaves sufficient funds to assist three more farms. Those interested have until Feb. 25 to submit an application.
