TIOGA – Tioga eliminated Bainbridge-Guilford from the Section IV Class C playoffs Tuesday night taking control of the game in the middle two quarters Tuesday night.
Kara McDuffee scored 23 points for the Tigers and Kacie Hoyt had 17. Tioga advanced to the Section IV Class C finals against Harpursville, and have the type of balanced lineup that could give the MAC-champion Hornets a lot of trouble.
“They are just a good basketball team – solid one through five,” said B-G coach Bob Conway.
Tioga let 17-6 at the outset before B-G – after four timeouts used by Conway – closed the gap back to 20-14. “I thought we did a nice job getting back in the game, and I knew right then that we needed Chelsi (Rosa) and Corrine (Riegel) to score, or we would be in trouble.”
Tioga’s tall lineup did not allow Rosa and Riegel to get shots off, and the Bobcats’ number three and four scorers combined for just 11 points.
Tioga extended its lead to 15 points at halftime, and used a 13-0 run in the third quarter to pull away.
Shania Vandermark scored 14 points to B-G (17-4) and Randi Conway added 11. “Of our four losses, three of them are to the number two and three teams in the state,” Conway said, speaking of Tioga and Harpursville. “I felt we had a really good year, probably better than my expectations at the start of the year. Randi and Shania are back, and if we can fill the voids left by the seniors, I think we’ll be competitive.”
