Two seek spots on Sherburne board

SHERBURNE – Village voters have a choice in an upcoming election between two candidates who are vying to fill a vacancy on the board of trustees.

Voting takes place from noon to 9 p.m. on March 15 in the town building, 1 Canal St.

Incumbent Trustee Jack Staley hopes to retain his seat. Village Mayor William Acee appointed Staley to fill the unexpired term of Stephen M. Dunshee, who left office last June to become Chenango County’s Assistant District Attorney.

Elena Casscles actually filed her petition for the position with the village clerk’s office two weeks before Staley did. She said she has been planning to run for the post ever since being defeated in last year’s board elections. She lost to incumbent Christopher Tomaselli narrowly, earning 184 votes to Tomaselli’s 228.
