Spirit Week competition heats up at NHS
Spirit Week competition between seniors and freshmen of the Purple Team and sophomores and juniors of the White Team at the Norwich High School continued to escalate today as both teams seek to gain the upper hand.
While Monday’s competition – with its Sports Day Theme – was a little slow to start, Pep Club advisor Lansing Dimon said he expected the action to pick-up considerably as the week progresses.
Assistant Principal Scott Ryan couldn’t agree more.
“Things are just getting started here at NHS,” said Ryan, representing the Purple Team this year. “Things are stacked-up against the White Team, but you never rule out a Tornado.”
Today’s Twin Day Theme challenged members of both teams to partner-up with a fellow White or Purple and dress so as to resemble one another as closely as possible. In addition, the daily trivia contest continued today with a second set of ten questions, all of which are focused on a variety of topics the students are currently learning.
Both teams receive spirit points based on the daily trivia challenge and participation in the daily theme days.
Coincidentally this year, the first of two NHS Spring Concerts falls during Spirit Week, beginning at 7 tonight in the high school auditorium. In addition, several performances from tonight’s concert, including the Mixed Choir and Jazz Ensemble, will be featured during an in-school concert, to be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, also in the auditorium.
Both concerts provide a great opportunity for members of both White and Purple to show some unofficial support for their fellow teammates who are performing, stated Dimon, who warned that competition is likely to intensify even more with Thursday’s Talent Show and Friday’s Pep Rally and Spirit Night fast approaching.
