GREENE – Greene and junior pitcher Rebecca Hanrahan made a perfect start to the 2011 season.

Hanrahan, a third-year varsity pitcher, tossed a perfect game in the Trojans’ season opener. She fanned 10, and was aided by fine defensive play. “I was a little concerned because we’ve been inside a lot, and it’s (the weather) been frustrating,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “I was happy with the defensive plays we made, and we showed a lot of focus.”

Junior Taylor Ellis, who moved to New York from Florida before the start of the school year, made a big impact at the plate. She was 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. Ellis capped her day with a two-run triple in the sixth inning. Hanrahan helped her own cause with three hits, and Caitlin Willis also finished with three hits.

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville had no answer for Waterville’s bats on Thursday night.

Dylan Hodge went 4-for-6 for Waterville, and Katrina Jones had two hits – both doubles – driving in two runs for the victors. Jones also pitched a five-hit shutout.

“It was close early, but their batters got into a groove,” said S-E coach Michelle Parker. “We tried to get out of it by switching pitchers, but they were just pounding the ball and driving it into the outfield.”
