Bainbridge man dragged by truck
BAINBRIDGE – A Bainbridge man was injured Wednesday night after being dragged by a vehicle following a verbal dispute.
According to Trooper Christopher May of the New York State Police Troop C Sidney Barracks, 19-year old Russell Darling was dragged for approximately 20 feet while clinging to the passenger window of a maroon Dodge Dakota pick-up driven by Tyler Dodge, 24.
The incident took place shortly after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, near the intersection of Kirby and Greenlawn Streets in the Village of Bainbridge.
According to Trooper May, it was sparked by a verbal dispute between the two men regarding Dodge’s ex-girlfriend, who currently lives with Darling.
“Words were exchanged from the vehicle,” he explained, after which Dodge pulled away.
Darling, however, held onto the truck and was dragged for a distance before releasing his grip and rolling away, troopers said.
According to May, witnesses and friends of the victim present at the scene confirmed the 19-year old clung to the truck on his own accord and was not forcibly detained in any way. Nor was he under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.
Darling suffered multiple abrasions and lacerations to his chest, arms and the back of his head and, according to May, may have permanent bald spots where his head made contact. He was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital by the Bainbridge Emergency Squad.
Dodge had been released on bail earlier that evening from the Chenango County Correctional Facility following an arrest for third degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was charged again with the same offense, as well as failure to stop at a stop sign. He was remanded once more to the county jail, where he remains in lieu of $2,000 cash bail.
