Irene interferes with fundraiser for Oxford's EMS Explorers

OXFORD – Those hoping to indulge their sweet tooth and get their car washed this weekend at a car wash and bake sale for the Oxford Fire Department’s EMS Explorer’s program will have to wait thanks to Hurricane Irene.

The fundraiser, originally scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Sunday at Blueox, has been postponed because of the storm.

While many departments have fire explorer posts, Oxford’s EMS Explorer program is the first of its kind in the county.

“We just started the program at the end of May,” explained Tim Wakefield, who is one of the group’s four advisors.
