Norwich 2, Afton 1 (OT)
NORWICH – Norwich withstood Afton’s strong push in the second half, and won for the first time this season beating the Crimson Knights Saturday evening.
Norwich earned a direct kick just outside the 18-yard box, and Billy Whaley’s boot caromed near the goal area. A clear attempt by an Afton defender went off Norwich’s Chris Trevisani and into the goal at 4:34 for the winner.
Afton controlled play much of the second half, and tied the game on Mark Viviano’s long direct kick with less than 20 minutes to play. “I think we were a little out of sync in the second half,” said Norwich coach Steve Prime. “We had played 2 1/2 really good games, and weren’t as intense as the last couple of games.”
Norwich mounted several offensive attacks in the first half, and it paid off when Curtis Woodard’s high cross from the right side was knocked in by Whaley.
Norwich looks for its second win tonight at 7 p.m. when it hosts Windsor.
