Pasquale’s Pizza finds a new downtown home

NORWICH – After 11 successful years in its present location on the corner of North Broad and Fair streets, Pasquale’s Pizza is moving to a new home in the city.
The business is finishing out the month at its current spot and is set to temporarily close June 29. Former restaurant owner Pasquale D’Abbraccio – who began the business in Norwich in 2001 and owned and operated another pizza shop in Long Island for 18 years prior to relocating to Norwich – is retiring, leaving his son, John D’Abbraccio, fully in charge of carrying out a new direction for the small eatery.
Instead of its current space on 45 N. Broad, the pizzeria is taking up the vacant storefront once occupied by First Edition Book Store at 13 S. Broad. The commercial space, which has been empty since February, has undergone extensive renovations in preparation for Pasquale’s Pizza.
“We still have some renovations left,” said John Dabbraccio, explaining that work has yet to be done with the storefront’s electric, lighting, and other cosmetic work on the interior. Thus far, the inside of the store has been gutted, interior panelling has been stripped to expose the brick walls and carpeting has been removed to make way for new flooring.
Hopes are to have all renovations completed and the restaurant’s doors open for the first time in its new home before the Norwich Family YMCA kicks-off the annual Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament. If all goes accordingly, said Dabbraccio, the store’s grand re-opening will be Saturday, July 7.
The new location comes with its own perks, too, Dabbraccio said. A front and rear entrance will make pick-up and delivery more efficient, and there’s even the possibility of curb-side pick-up. Moreover, the new location has more square footage, making the dining room and kitchen areas bigger and parking space in the municipal lot behind the store will resolve some of the parking issues that are often problematic at its current spot.
“It’s one of the things to look forward to, a bigger location,” Dabbraccio said. “I’m looking forward to doing more business in Norwich. It’s really a great town.”
