Cyclones sweep division titles

NORWICH – The Norwich Cyclones’ A, B, and C teams swept victories Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field to capture Tri-Valley League division titles.
The unbeaten “C” team held Rome to negative yards for the game downing the Colts, 24-0 to win its division outright. The Cyclones opened the scoring on a three-minute, 60-yard drive with a 22-yard touchdown run by Jacob Davis. JT Vinal had a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter for a 18-0 halftime lead. Elijah Rodriguez scored on a three-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to finish the scoring.
The defense was led by Davis, Kyle Sheppard, Noah Bufalini, David Berger, and Vinal.
The Cyclones “B” team also remained unbeaten in a division-clinching 12-0 victory over Cazenovia.
Drew Walsh reached paydirt on a five-yard jaunt in the second quarter for a 6-0 halftime lead. Thomas Parrella hit Cristobal Caballero on a 10-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter raising the lead to a dozen points. Payton Stirone led the Cyclones backs with 98 yard rushing on the day. Heading up the Cyclones’ defense were Scott Manwarren, Jacob Lamb, Carter Rudnitski, Kegan Wright, and Zack Mills.
The Cyclones “A” team put together a touchdown parade in a 54-26 romp over Rome to wind up 6-1 in regular season play.
Nick Stirone scored on three rushing touchdowns to top the offensive attack. Jonathon Heggie opened the scoring with a 14-yard scoring pass from Zack Race. Carter Hubbard reached paydirt on a 10-yard run. Cole Rifanburg had a 65-yard TD and 111 yards on just six carries, and he kicked a two-point conversion as well. Deshawn King had his first touchdown as a Cyclones player with a 21-yard scamper. Paden Burlison added a 11-yard touchdown, with Marcus Benjamin chipping in the extra-point run. Owen Blackman figured in the scoring, too, contributing an extra-point run.
The Cyclones defense was led by Josh Hagenbuch, Brennan Slater, Zack Clipston, Blackman, Ben Scheer, and Timmy Thompson.
Ilion’s defeat of Camden on Sunday gave the Cyclones “A” team the division title by a crossover-game tiebreaker.
The Cyclones D team remained unbeaten on the season as well, in a non-scorekeeping game with Rome.
The Cyclones now move on to the playoffs with the A team traveling to Oneida this Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. The B team travels to North Utica on Sunday for a 2 p.m. game. The D team is also at North Utica at 10 a,m. The Cyclones C team travels to Cazenovia on Sunday for a noon start.
