87-year-old Plymouth man in stable condition; missing 16 hours
PLYMOUTH – An 87-year-old Plymouth man was located early Saturday morning after he went missing for 16 hours by family members and authorities. The search was led by the New York State Forest Rangers in conjunction with multiple agencies and multiple counties, including the Plymouth Fire Department and Norwich Ambulance Services.
The search for Henry Holmes began at approximately 3 p.m. Friday when family members noticed he was missing after last being seen at a Star View Lane residence in Plymouth. After searching for some time without success Holmes’ family called authorities who began an extensive exploration of the Plymouth Reservoir region. A canine was used to scour the area immediately surrounding the residence to no avail. At approximately 11:30 p.m. the search was called off for the night with no sign of the missing Holmes.
The search resumed early Saturday morning with authorities tirelessly combing the area. Then, a little before 9 a.m., Holmes was discovered by Forest Rangers approximately 200 yards from the Star View Lane home making his way back towards the house. He was subsequently evaluated and transported to the Chenango Memorial Hospital for further observation, but is currently listed in stable condition. It is still unclear exactly where Holmes was during his 16 hour excursion.
“It was an excellent effort from everyone involved,” said Chenango County Chief Dispatcher A. Jones. “Luckily the weather was warm so there wasn’t an issue with him being outside during the night and he ended up being okay.”
