Afton Fair celebrates 124th year
AFTON – The Afton Fair will be held July 11-14, and will again be an old fashioned Agricultural Fair with family fun for all ages. Despite the lack of a midway, the Afton Fair Board has worked hard to bring a variety of activities and exhibits to the 124th Afton Fair.
Daily attractions include animal exhibits, art exhibits, small animal pens and the floral hall.
Thursday’s general admission fee is $1 while ages 5 and under are free. Activities include: Floral Hall Judging under the grandstand from 9 to 11 a.m., Harness Racing from 1 to 5 p.m. with free grandstand admission, and the K Bar F Rodeo with bare back, bronco, bull riding and barrel racing at 7:30 p.m. (Grandstand admission $10 per seat, 5 and under free). The Grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m., Sertoma Food booth and Hope Congregational Church Chicken Barbecue, and Bike drawing during the Rodeo – one girls and one boys bike for ages 5-10.
Friday’s admission is the donation of a nonperishable food item. Activities are as follows: Youth Dairy Show at 10 a.m., children’s activity center from noon until 5 p.m., I-88 Speedway Racing – Modified Sportsman, IMCA Modified, Street Stock, FWD 4 cylinder cars and Empire Sports Trucks, admission: Adult (age 15 and older) $10.00, Youth (age 9 to 14) $5, Children 8 and under free. The Sertoma Food booth and Hope Congregational Church Chicken Barbecue will continue to be open, and the bike drawing will take place during the race intermission.
The admission on Saturday is $3 per car. An open English and Western Horse Show will take place at 9 a.m. The Flea Market will be held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Youth Dairy Show will begin at 10 a.m. and the children’s activity center will be open from noon until 5 p.m. Gary Jennings will be at the entertainment tent from 1-5 p.m. and he will host the Miss Afton Fair Competition at 1 p.m. The Doodlebug Club will be at 2 p.m. and the Afton Fair Baby Contest is slated for 3 p.m. A bike drawing at the entertainment tent at 5:45 p.m. Kaitlyn Jackson will perform from 6-9 p.m. at the entertainment tent. Fireworks will take place at dark.

An open horse show will be held at 9 a.m., the Catskill Garden Tractor Pullers will be at 10 a.m. as well as the T.O.Y.S (Tractors of Yesteryears) Tractor Pull at 10 a.m. A karaoke contest is slated for noon, with sign-ups at 11 a.m. The casual cruise-in will take place from 1-5 p.m. The free children’s activity center will again be open from noon until 5 p.m.
