Material witness determined for Ramsaran trial
NORWICH – The September trial for Ganesh R. Ramsaran is fast approaching, and on Monday, Chenango County Court Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr. determined that Eileen Sayles will serve as a material witness in the case.
Ramsaran is facing murder charges, as it is alleged that he killed his wife, Jennifer Ramsaran.
The Chenango County District Attorney's Office made the original application for Sayles to serve as a material witness. Evidence was presented from the DA's Office as to why she would be appropriate as a material witness. Rather than contesting the appointment, Sayles waived her right to a hearing, and agreed to the terms presented by the court.
Revoir laid out the terms for Sayles, which entail being on stand-by to appear in court throughout the month of September, beginning Sept. 2. She is also not to leave the area without permission from the court. Revoir determined that she is not a flight risk as she has children and is a permanent resident in the area.
“You are a material witness. Your potential testimony is in fact material to underlying issues and the case,” Revoir said.
As a result, no bail was set and Sayles was released on her own recognizance.
Sayles' attorney, M. Korchak, said, “She is not going to disobey... she is not a flight risk and agrees to the terms.”
