Chenango Arts Council primps for night out

NORWICH — With a mere one day left until the Chenango Arts Council pops the champagne for its Bi-annual Gala, organizers are abuzz tying up loose ends and placing finishing touches on the event.
“There is so much anticipation and excitement before an event like this,” said CAC Executive Director Diane Batson-Smith, “The Council board has worked tirelessly to ensure that this community-building fundraiser goes off without a hitch.”
While the event – booked at the Northeast Classic Car Museum this year– is scheduled for this upcoming Saturday, Batson-Smith said that there are still a few spots available, and that a very limited number of tickets can still be purchased by community members if interested in attending.
“The CAC Bi-annual Gala is our highlight event in terms of fundraising, and we really want the public to play an active part in what is essentially their Arts Council,” Batson-Smith said.
Alluding to her desire to increase community participation of programming at the W. Main St. facility, the recently appointed Batson-Smith makes it clear that she wants an open dialogue with members of the Chenango County community in an effort to steer programming to the tastes of the public.
“We're hoping that we can generate some good feedback from the community at the Gala, all of the CAC board members are expected to attend, so it's a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each other as well,” she said.
This year’s event boasts a silent auction that includes a multitude of unique items including New York Giants tickets, an evening with Jerry Seinfeld in Binghamton, and a vacation getaway package. Even better, all proceeds from auction sales go directly into funding operations and programming at the Arts Council.
The Chenango Arts Council, now in its 40th year, allocated more than $112,000 in cultural funding to Broome, Chenango and Otsego County non-profit organizations, artists and schools in 2014, and is projected to allocate well over $115,000 in 2015.
“Making it out to the Gala is a win-win,” Batson-Smith said. “It enables people to get out, mingle and have a great evening while supporting the Arts Council.”
