16 gauge shotgun recovered on Ross Avenue following incident, one arrested
NORWICH – Members of the Norwich Police Department were on the scene of a Ross Avenue residence on Thursday, after it was reported that there was a man armed with a weapon threatening another person. No one was injured and the situation ended swiftly.
The man arrested sits in the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 following his initial arraignment after the arrest.
According to the NPD, the call was received from the Chenango County 911 Center at approximately 12:14 p.m.
Officers responded to the scene quickly.
Not only were the on-duty officers on the scene, but the Narcotics Detective, a parole officer, K9 Officer Brandon Clarke, Detective-Sergeant Reuben Roach, and Police Chief Rodney Marsh were also spotted on Ross Avenue following the incident.
Arrested was 21-year-old Nicholas C. Babcock, of Norwich.
Babcock was charged with menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, and endangering the welfare of a child, all class A misdemeanors.
The charges alleges that Babcock intentionally placed or attempted to place another person in reasonable fear of physical injury, serious physical injury or death, by “displaying a deadly weapon, dangerous instrument or what appears to be a pistol, revolver, rifle, shotgun, machine gun, or other firearm,” read a release from the NPD.
Additionally, the endangering the welfare of a child charge alleges that Babcock knowingly acted in a manner likely to be injurious to the physical mental or moral welfare of a child under the age of 17.
It was said by authorities that a 16 gauge shotgun was recovered at the scene on Ross Avenue.
According to the NPD, the officers were able to bring this dangerous situation to an end quickly and without injury to the officers, victims, or the Babcock.
Babcock is set to appear in court again at a later date.
