Oxford Fire Department awarded federal grant to upgrade equipment
OXFORD – The Village of Oxford Fire Department will be able to upgrade some of its equipment thanks to a recent round of federal grant funds.
United States Congressman Richard Hanna announced Wednesday that the Oxford Fire Department is slated to receive $23,800 through the federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, an initiative administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency in conjunction with the U.S. Fire Administration.
The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. The AFG grant permits the Oxford Fire Department to upgrade critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, or other resources that are vital in helping firefighters and other first responders protect the public.
Said Hanna, “I am pleased to see the Oxford Fire Department receive this federal grant for their work to keep the public safe. Response time during emergencies is critical and seconds matter. Anything we can do to enhance gear, upgrade emergency vehicles or further support training ensures that we are affording our first responders the tools necessary to do their jobs and protect our citizens.”
