HAMILTON – Phoenix Project Dance, a not for profit professional dance company based out of Norwich, will be holding its final show for the 2015 calendar year this coming Saturday, Nov. 14th.
“We're going back to the Palace Theatre,” said Phoenix Project Dance Executive Director Mike Perkins.
This full length production will be held at the Hamilton Palace Theatre, which is located at 19 Utica Street in Hamilton.
This production will mark the sixth year the group has performed at this venue.
“It's such a unique theatre because it used to be a night club, the audience is so close to the dancers. It's the only theatre where the audience is that close,” said Perkins.
The event will begin at 7:30 p.m., tickets for the event will be $20 for students and $25 for general admission.
“This year and like other years the show is right before thanksgiving, usually the week of the Cornell vs. Colgate hockey game so Hamilton is always a buzzing place. We love it,” said Perkins.
The roughly an hour and a half long show will feature the 11 total dancers in the company, performing 12 separate dances.
Perkins will be on the mic introducing each performance.
Perkins explained that there will be some new pieces, along with dances performed previously like, “Plan the Escape” and “Pollock,” which were both performed at the “Phases” event earlier this year.
“Pollock” will be performed by Katiana Pare of Ottawa, and Travis St. Denny of Norwich.
Kristyn Alexandrea of Norwich will be performing a duet with Connor Mitton from Toronto, “It's a really awesome piece that you’ll want to see,” said Perkins.
Perkins went on to explain a new piece titled, “Patch of Sun,” explaining how the choreography for this dance was given to the dancers themselves. Throughout the entire show the piece will be performed seven different times, each time is a different group of dancers with a different choreography will perform. At the end of the evening, the final performance of this dance will include the entire cast.
“They’re all professionals, they’re at a point right now where a majority of them are dancing to whatever choreographer tells them to do. This allows them to take some material and do what they want with it,” said Perkins.
The production will once again feature PPD2, their youth component to the company, as a part of the full length event that evening.
PPD2 was premiered at “Phases” an earlier production this year in August.
PPD2 helps feature young aspiring dancers from all around the country giving them a professional stage to perform on at a young age.
“We had an audition two weeks ago for PPD2 at our Syracuse convention with over 45 dancers auditioning, we have dancers from all over,” said Perkins.
“It's usually a really emotional time too for everyone, since our dancers are from all over and we’ve been spending the last six months with each other, and now we don’t see each other for the holidays,” explained Perkins.
The event will be catered by the Colgate Inn.
Following the completion of the all the dances, there will be a meet and greet session at the Colgate Inn with a late night menu. People will be given the chance to be able to sit down with all the dancers.
“We love hamilton because it is like our hometown crowd, we get lots of people from the university, lots of people from Hamilton, we love it,” said Perkins.
Phoenix Project Dance would like to invite everyone from the community to come out and enjoy the event this coming Saturday.
