Fire Chief comments on possibility of tainted heroin
NORWICH – As the possibility of tainted heroin exists, the public should be on notice.
In light of reports of three deaths in Bradford County over this past weekend, and 23 deaths in Buffalo over the past 10 days – all related to heroin overdose – Norwich and surrounding communities should be on high alert.
This ‘tainted heroin’ in Bradford County and Buffalo has been said to be laced with Fentanyl.
It cannot be confirmed if any heroin locally is laced with said Fentanyl or any other substance.
Fentanyl is categorized as an opiate and narcotic and is reported a sedative. Fentanyl has been known to be mixed with heroin to either increase potency or compensate for low-quality heroin.
Norwich Fire Department Chief Tracy Chawgo confirmed Wednesday morning, Feb. 17, that the Norwich Fire Department had administered “a couple of Narcans in the last couple days.”
“It's out there and if people are going to use that kind of stuff they need to be made aware of it,” said Chawgo. “It could be here, it could not. Once that stuff gets out onto the street though, it goes everywhere, and it starts when it hits the bigger cities, and then it trickles down.”
