Monday Evening Music Club to host ‘Music in Our Schools’ concert
NORWICH – The Monday Evening Music Club, now in its 106th year, is gearing up to host the annual “Music in Our Schools” concert to showcase the musical talents of students from all over the county.
The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 14 at the United Church of Christ in Norwich. Each year, music departments in school districts throughout the county come together to bring the area’s musically gifted students to the same stage.
Performing this year will be the Oxford Jazz Band (directed by Julie Solomon), Madrigal Singers of Norwich High School (directed by Mary Williams), and students in the Norwich High School’s rendition of “Little Shop of Horrors” (directed by Cameron Kinnear).
The performance will also include talented pianists Nick Deady (Norwich Middle School) and Colin Bussing (Norwich High School) playing classical selections. Both are students of Anita Humer of Sherburne.
As always, the concert is free and open to the public; however, donations of any amount are requested. Proceeds go toward the Monday Evening Music Club’s scholarship fund for a high school senior who will major in a music program in college. Another scholarship will be awarded to a local senior this Spring.
“Please do not miss this concert and the opportunity to see the talented and gifted students of Chenango County,” said Humer. “There is always a lovely reception to follow each of our concerts where you can eat, meet and greet the performers.”
