Sauquoit Indians prove to be too fast for S-E
SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville varsity field hockey team packed their bags to travel nearly an hour north to play Sauquoit Valley high school, marking their seventh game of 2016 on Sept. 21.
Sauquoit Indians made short work of the visiting Marauders defeating them 4-0 when time expired.
“We were hoping for a win, but adjusting to the speed of playing on turf was difficult,” said S-E head coach Sheila Cooman.
The speed of the Indians on the turf field would warrant a 2-0 halftime lead over S-E.
Following the break at the half, S-E was hoping to regroup and produce a better outcome in the second, however, two more Indian goals would hand Sauquoit the win.
The explosive offense of the Indians would send 18 shots toward the S-E goal, while also seeing seven corners. For S-E in the loss, they would indeed hit double digits with 10 shots on goal, but would land none, as they simply would not be able to keep pace. The Marauders would however also see seven corners in the contest.
In the loss Lexie Jordan would record nine saves, while Jade Diamond would see five saves for Sherburne-Earlville. For Sauquoit Valley Ali Sloma would record all 10 saves.
Scoring for the Indians was Emily LaSalle - two goals, Abby Stanimer - one goal, and Makenzie Martin - one goal.
Up next for Sherburne-Earlville (1-6 overall) they will be playing in the weekend field hockey tournament at Sidney this Friday and Saturday. Their first game against New York Mills is scheduled to begin on Friday, Sept. 23, at 4:30 p.m.
“Hopefully the experience will pay off on Friday when we play NY Mills at the Sidney tournament on their turf,” said coach Cooman.
