County Board of Supervisors proclaims month of October 'Cooperative Extension and 4-H Month'
CHENANGO COUNTY – In recognition of the impact that Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County and 4-H Youth Development have on the people of the County, Chairman Lawrence Wilcox offered Resolution #10-17 to proclaim the month of October 2016 'Cooperative Extension and 4-H Month' in Chenango County.
The resolution adopted by the Board on Tuesday, October 11, acknowledges the many different positive influences that the Cooperative Extension, its volunteers, and 4-H Youth Development have on the people of Chenango County.
Representatives from the Cooperative Extension and 4-H were present at the Board meeting and Chairman Wilcox offered his thanks for their efforts and the subsequent results that occur in the County.
Wyatt Austin, a 13 year old from Coventry, spoke at the Board meeting to give some insight on the impact that 4-H has had on his life in his eight years with the program.
“4-H has taught me to be more outgoing and make new friends,” said Austin. “It has given me the opportunity to show my animals at fairs and learn how I can improve them and also compete in non 4-H related shows.”
Austin went on to describe some of the other activities that 4-H has helped him become involved in such as kayaking, fishing, and shooting sports, which he says have helped him learn the value of responsibility and how hard work pays off.
“In all, 4-H has brought a lot of good things into my life and it is a great thing for kids my age to be involved in,” Austin concluded.
October 2 – 8 was recognized nationally as 4-H week and statewide as Cornell Cooperative Extension week. In proclaiming October 2016 'Cooperative Extension and 4-H Month,' the Chenango County Board of Supervisors is encouraging all citizens of the County to recognize the efforts and dedication of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Association, local volunteers, and 4-H Program, while also encouraging the County's youth to take advantage of the programs that these organizations offer.
