Tenney tops opponents, takes 44 percent of vote
CHENANGO COUNTY – “I am humbled that the voters of the 22nd Congressional District have placed their trust in me to represent them in the Congress,” said Republican Claudia Tenney, who won the Congressional 22nd District Tuesday night after accumulating 44 percent of the vote. “I will provide an independent voice in Congress for the middle class families, small businesses, family farms and regular hard working people who simply don’t have a voice in Washington.”
“Running for Congress was an experience like no other,” said Tenney's opponent and Democratic candidate Kim Myers, who netted 38 percent of the vote. “We ran a very truthful campaign and I would not have done anything differently.”
Independent Martin Babinec said, “I want to congratulate Claudia Tenney and Kim Myers on a hard fought race. I knew that running as a third party candidate would be an uphill climb - but that was made all the harder by the establishment political machinery that actively worked against our campaign. I am proud of the positive, issue-based campaign that we ran and remain committed to the region I love and the issues of jobs and helping other independent candidates seek office through the Upstate Jobs Party.”
Tenney went on to say, “I will provide an independent voice in Congress for the middle class families, small businesses, family farms and regular hard working people who simply don’t have a voice in Washington. Throughout my short time in politics, I have stood up, when others would not, to challenge the failed policies of the political class--and I have proven my ability to work across the aisle to get results that benefit our community. That’s the same type of leadership I will bring to Washington.”
