Local law enforcement invite all to Saturday's Community Picnic
NORWICH – As a way of saying thank you to the residents of Chenango County and the City of Norwich, the Chenango County Law Enforcement Association (LEA) and the Norwich Police Benevolent Association (PBA) are inviting locals to a Community Picnic this Saturday, August 5 at Kurt Beyer Park.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. residents of Chenango County will have an opportunity to meet local law enforcement members over free hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, and yogurt––while supplies last.
“Our law enforcement union decided after last year's “Shop with a Sheriff” that it would be fun to have a summer event involving the sheriff's deputies, Norwich officers, and the public as a way to have more positive interaction,” said Chenango County Sheriff Lieutenant Richard Cobb.
The event will also feature fun, kid friendly games and law enforcement demonstrations.
“We decided on a summer picnic where people could come by, meet the officers they see patrolling, and maybe compete against them in a fun way,” said Cobb. “Most important to us is that everyone has a good time and our interaction is positive.”
Norwich Police Officer Alicia Woodard said on behalf of the Norwich PBA, “We are excited and looking forward to Saturday's picnic. Hopefully we have a great turnout and can show the community how much we appreciate their support.”
Woodard went on to say that it's the intention of Chenango County LEA and the Norwich PBA to make its Community Picnic an annual event.
“Ultimately we feel this will help strengthen the relationship between the police and the community," said Cobb.
