Fire at Raymond Corporation causes minor damage

GREENE – The Greene Fire Department successfully extinguished a fire in an air ventilation system before it could deal major damage to the Raymond Corporation building in Greene.

On Tuesday, the fire department in Greene received a call around 11:30 a.m. from dispatch which informed the department smoke was coming from the Raymond Corporation building on Canal Street.

A second call from Greene Fire Department Assistant-Chief, who works at Raymond Corporation, confirmed the presence of smoke.

According to a press released posted on the Greene Fire Department Official Facebook page, when the fire department arrived they found a section of Raymond’s air ventilation system had caught fire, but the fire was contained and extinguished with minor damage to the property.

Greene fire officials praised Raymond for the response and having a working fire detection system in place.

“This is an example of why smoke alarms are needed inside commercial buildings as well as your home,” said the Greene FD in a statement.
