NORWICH – A man facing child porn charges appeared in Chenango County Court on Monday, claimed his innocence and is requesting a trial.

Dirk M. Smith, 39, of Norwich, was arrested on October 26, 2017 in the town of Bainbridge and charged with possessing a sexual performance of a child, a class E felony, and resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor.

THe defense rhas refused a plea offer by the District Attorney's Office, and Smith's attorney, Assistant Public Defender Zachary Wentworth, said his client would prefer to go to trial and clear his name.

"He's maintaining his innocence in this matter, and he is seeking his day in court," said Wentworth.
