Bainbridge, Greene mayors will take part in second Meet the Mayors civic forum
NORWICH – Chenango Links will host its second Meet the Mayors civic forum at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 3 with Mayor of Bainbridge Philip Wade and Mayor of Greene Phillip Brown at the Bohemian Moon in Norwich.
Dubbed by organizers as "Not just a ribbon cutting; Peek into the roles of our leaders," the forum serves as a chance for local leaders to discuss their challenges, accomplishments, and visions for the future while affording attendees the opportunity to ask them questions.
Chenango Links member MiBy Kim said the purpose of the program is to engage more residents with their local government officials. Open to the public, forum organizers call for residents who aren't interested in "swamp politics" or "partisan or ideological polarization and rigidity" to attend.
Chenango Links member Karol Kucinski said the idea of organizing a civic forum was a result of Kim seeing European mayors speak in forums on TV.
"[Kim] thought we should try to hear from our local leaders about not only their problems as mayors, but their vision for the future," said Kucinski. He said the hope is for future forums to feature other mayors, alderman, board members, and other local elected officials.
The first Meet the Mayors panel took place on October 1 with Mayor of Norwich Christine Carnrike and Mayor of Oxford Terry Stark and was considered a success by Chenango Links members. The civic forum took the place of the organization's former monthly program, Monday Movie at the Moon.
A $15 buffet dinner and cash bar will be available at the forum beginning at 5:30 p.m. ahead of the event.
Chenango Links' goal as an organization is to, "...aid in achieving transparency of the decision-making bodies that impact our daily life, have an honest discussion which allows different perspectives, and search for solutions to the causes of setbacks."
For more information, call (607) 334-9480. The Bohemian Moon is located at 103 East Main Street in Norwich.
