Man facing charges after alleged arson in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH – Police arrested a man on Saturday after an investigation lead them to believe he started a barn fire in Plymouth.

Christopher Bonno, 30, was charged with fourth-degree arson, third-degree burglary, and resisting arrest on the day after the fire.

According to Plymouth Fire Department First Assistant Chief Shawn Cushman, the department was dispatched to a barn fire at around 8 p.m. on Saturday located at 3973 State Highway 23 in the Town of Plymouth.

He said arriving units found smoke coming from a large hay barn, but no fire was found and the smoldering hay was extinguished. He added that the City of Norwich Fire Department was first to arrive on scene.

"The fire was taken care of quickly and no one was injured" said Cushman. "Currently a person is facing arson charges related to the fire."

Plymouth received mutual aid from Preston Fire Rescue, Official City of Norwich Fire Department, Smyrna Fire Department and Chenango County Bureau of Fire. State Highway 23 was closed while responders worked. Units were on the scene for approximately three hours.

Law enforcement said the investigation is ongoing, and Bonno is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
