Man ticketed for robbing Norwich pharmacy indicted by grand jury
CHENANGO COUNTY – The man who allegedly robbed Walgreens is facing a felony indictment, along with two other men who are accused of committing unrelated crimes including purses and motorcycle thefts.
David D. Brunell was indicted on third-degree robbery, a class D felony.
According to the indictment, at approximately 7:10 p.m. on February 4, while in the City of Norwich, Brunell entered the building and forced a Walgreens Pharmacy employee to give him money from the cash register.
Around the time the incident occurred, Chenango County District Attorney Michael Ferrarese said Brunell was released on an appearance ticket due to the criminal justice reform laws.
At the time the Ferrarese said Brunell walked into the store, “put his hand in his pocket and told the clerk something along the lines of 'This is no joke, give me your money.'”
“If I had my preference he would be in jail on bail. He is a risk and a danger to the community but unfortunately the bail laws passed by the New York legislature do not permit me to make that request,” said Ferrarese. “The business was robbed. That employee was terrified. That was an area of law that unfortunately bail reform changed and it has had adverse consequences for our community. It's just another example of the consequences not being thought out by the legislature.”
“He's a danger to the community, no doubt about it. If you are walking into a business and robbing people, you are dangerous.”
Tyler L. Thomas was indicted on second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class A misdemeanor.
It is alleged that on January 31, 2021 Thomas broke into a dwelling in the City of Norwich and stole a red Air Jordan backpack, multiple t-shirts, two Michael Kors purses, and other miscellaneous items from within.
Christopher L. Knapp was indicted on fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony.
His indictment states that on October 27, 2020, while in the Village of Bainbridge, Knapp stole a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle with a value of approximately $2,485.
