SOUTHERN TIER — Southern Tier 8 launched their new website on Wednesday, March 20 at the Northeast Classic Car Museum in Norwich, which provides resources for projects and businesses, information on what the area has to offer, and promotes the Southern Tier and its businesses.

Southern Tier 8 is a regional planning board that works with the Appalachian Regional Commission and US Commerce Economic Development Administration to implement federal funding in the Southern Tier.

The organization provides technical assistance, resources, and connections for county governments, higher education institutions, and nonprofit organizations in Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Schoharie, Tioga, and Tompkins Counties.

"We fund a lot of workforce development programs, so we support the county planning departments in each of the eight counties, our Industrial Development Agencies (IDAs), chambers, workforce development organizations, BOCES," said Southern Tier 8 Executive Director Jen Gregory. "We’re very behind the scenes, and that’s intentional. So the partners we put out there, they're the front line when people call, and if they have an idea we take their project, we develop it, and we prepare it for federal investment."

The new website, So-Tier.com, is a way to combine resources available to regional governments and organizations for projects, as well as promote the businesses and events in the area in an easily accessible and streamlined way.

"The idea was on the site, let’s promote the resources that are available for economic regional development and growth," said Gregory. "So we can promote all the IDAs that are here, the chambers, all the events that they have, the planning departments, all the work that they put in before we have some of this development, and then what are the project investments that we have? And then what are the events that are around the region? And what are the community areas, like our parks and our museums, our universities?"

The website includes a live map of events, things to do, and available education in the region; a live map to find area businesses; a page of tools, partners, and resources to help a business or project grow; examples of completed projects in the Souther Tier; available properties to start or expand a business; business events for networking opportunities; and a news page with success stories and industry and project news.

"There’s a lot of services here," said Gregory. "There’s a link to all the partners that we have. There’s a link to their website, their social media, and their email. But one spot where everyone can show what they’re working on."
