Norwich boys’ swim finish fifth in the Waverly Invitational

WAVERLY – Over the weekend, the Norwich Purple Tornado boys’ swim team swam at the Waverly Invitational, where they finished fifth out of 11 teams. Corning-Painted Post won the overall meet.

Sophomore Amon Oliver led Norwich in the 200 freestyle with a fifth place finish, where he achieved a new personal best time of 2:08.20. Nate Shtrauch came in ninth place with a time of 2:09.91.

Shtrauch also swam in the 100 butterfly, where he finished seventh with a time of 1:05.68 as Kris Deuel took seventh in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:20.22. Deuel finished third in the 500 freestyle with Oliver in fifth, setting a new personal best 5:45.15.

Tim Guzewich, Alex Moutarde, and Sharon Thinagaran all swam the 50 freestyle, where Guzewich finished 11th, Moutarde swam to a 13th place finish, and Thinagaran finished 25th of 27 swimmers. Moutarde achieved a new personal best swim of 57.71 seconds in the 100 freestyle, where he finished ninth. Thinagaran finished 22nd in the same event with a new best time of 1:18.94.
