AFTON— The Afton Crimson Knights softball team is heading to the Section IV, Class D championship! The Crimson Knights defeated Morris/Edmeston 22-3 in front of their home crowd.
After two scoreless innings, Afton had a big third inning, scoring 14 runs. The Crimson Knights added on with seven runs in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Morris/Edmeston scored its three runs in their final at-bat in the seventh.
Afton scored 22 runs on 17 hits with MaKenna Schultz leading the way with four hits and three RBIs. Jenna Wilson, Adleigh Noone, and Briella Fendick all had two hits and three RBIs.
Emilie Hopkins and Megan Racine both had three hits with Racine driving in a run.
Miranda Schultz drove in a run as well, along with Rylee Rupakus and McKenna Ross.
Jenna Wilson went seven innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits, a walk, and struck out three batters.
Afton takes on Windham-Ashland-Jewett, who is currently unbeaten at 18-0, in the Section IV, Class D championship game on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park in Binghamton.
