Butternut Valley Grange Gilbertsville news and updates

GILBERTSVILLE - The Butternut Valley Grange convenes for its monthly meeting on Monday, June 8 at 7:30 p.m. at 7 Bloom Street.

Included in the business items at this meeting, are the election of one member of the Grange’s Executive Board for a three-year term and the obligation ceremony for new members joining the organization. Applications for membership are to be given to Roger Halbert prior to the meeting date for preparation of documents presented to the new members. The Grange recently prepared and served the meal for the Share the Bounty project, at Sacred Heart Parish Hall, Sidney when over 100 dinners were served. $100 was voted for the Gilbertsville Mt. Upton School Safety Patrol trip to Boston the end of June. Scholarships were sent to Gilbertsville Mt. Upton, Morris, Unatego, and Unadilla Valley schools for end of school year awards.

The Grange voted to participate at the annual Harvest Festival at Farmers’ Museum on September 12. At the last meeting Aidan Woishnis, Mayor, briefed the Grange on the anticipated happenings for the village observance of the 250th anniversary of the country. Cathy Galley volunteered to lead a committee effort in decorating the front entrance of the Grange Hall at the suggestion of the Village for all property owners to festively decorate for the special 250th birthday milestone, to run through September 15.

George Dempsie entertained the gathering with his original song honoring Butternut Valley Grange. George recently entered State Grange’s talent contest and won Best of Show. He has been invited to perform at the annual State Grange Convention in Waterloo in October. Cathy Galley also updated the Grange on the first meeting of “The Garden to Table” project which National Grange selected as one of the recipients nationally. This project involves three opportunities for the public’s participation, sponsored by the Grange and the local Baptist Church.

The local oatmeal cookie contest will be conducted at Monday’s meeting with entries and recipe to be attached to be at the Grange Hall by 7:15 p.m. Any questions about the activity can be directed to Sandra Stoy 607-287-0937.
